Introduction

If you follow the Zappts blog, you saw that in the last few weeks we published about the main technology trends for your company in 2023, where we addressed the topic from a broader and “cross-market” perspective, that is, presenting what, from a technological point of view, will impact markets in Brazil and the world in 2023.

In this publication we will go into more detail about trends from the perspective of the industrial market, responsible for a significant portion of the country’s GDP. We already knew that technology investment tends to rise in this market, but what will be the challenges for technology managers in the industrial sector? What are the points of attention that technology professionals in this segment need to be aware of in 2023?

Smart warehouse management system with innovative IoT technology

General Overview

According to the Oxford Dictionary, a trend is: “Something that leads someone to follow a certain path or act in a certain way.” Everything designed as a trend has as its main objectives to bring innovation, optimize something specific that already exists, generate scalability and pioneering spirit. For years Brazilian markets copied strategies from northern hemisphere countries, but in recent years, and increasingly, Brazil has become a major protagonist when it comes to technology, setting the pace of markets and generating innovation wherever it goes.

With that in mind, we start this chapter by recalling the top 10 tech trends for 2023, according to the Gartner report:

1. Digital immune system (focus on Quality Assurance)

2. Applied observability (focus on data and AI)

3. AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (AI TRiSM)

4. Industry cloud platforms (focus on infrastructure)

5. Platform engineering (focus on developer experience)

6. Wireless value realization (focus on APIs, integration and connectivity)

7. Superapps (focus on composability and UX Design)

8. Adaptive AI (focus on data and automation)

9. Metaverse (focus on Web3 solutions)

10. Sustainable Technology (focus on continuity)

‍

More details about these trends can be found by clicking here. According to Gartner, there are 3 main technology challenges for generating business results in 2023, regardless of the market your company operates in:

1) Optimize IT systems for greater reliability, improving technology leaders’ decision-making, guided by secure data and maintaining the integrity of production systems value.

2) Accelerate offerings in served verticals, increasing the pace of digital product delivery with quality and enabling connectivity everywhere, even those with low internet coverage.

3) Enable business model evolution and change, reinventing roles and engagement with collaborators, prospects and customers, accelerating experimentation with innovative strategies to explore new virtual markets.

‍

Now that we’ve seen the 3 main challenges that technology managers need to face in 2023, as well as the top 10 technology trends for the year, let’s analyze the trends for the industrial segment.

Innovative warehouse management software with real-time monitoring

Tech trends in the Brazilian industrial sector in 2023

The industry is currently experiencing Industry 4.0, where the arrival of 5G, with reduced latency, enables and facilitates machine-to-machine communication in various scenarios that were previously not optimized. This is because 5G promises to reduce machine communication latency from 10 milliseconds to 1 millisecond, according to Agência Brasil.

‍

In the Brazilian industry, trends indicate that 2023 will be the year of reinforcing Digital Immunity, a set of actions and investments in new practices and approaches that your teams should adopt to deliver high commercial value, in addition to mitigating risks and increasing customer satisfaction. A digital immune system provides this roadmap. Digital immunity combines data-driven insights about operations, automated testing, automated incident resolution, software engineering in IT operations, and supply chain security through applications that increase system resilience and stability.

‍

Another trend that already appeared in 2022 and is on a rising curve in 2023 is Cybersecurity, the evolution of combating Ransomware, Malware, Synthetic Identity Fraud and Deep Fakes. This trend creates an ever-greater urgency for large industries to direct efforts and investments in actions that mitigate or extinguish the damage that can be brought by these attacks.

‍

Being in compliance with information security best practices will also be an important reinforcement, since studies and reports indicate that in most cases (more than 80% according to Gartner), attacks are only possible due to a policy breach by employees, that is, human interaction is what allows most attacks to happen today, thus demonstrating the importance of corporate education on cybersecurity. Investment in training and certifications that address policies and procedures for Cybersecurity will certainly be part of the planning of Brazilian industry in 2023.

‍

Supply Chain Predictability and Intelligence is another highlight when studying tech trends in the industry. Supply chain information security focused on reducing logistics costs is among the main trends. Regarding the supply chain, predictability can be synonymous with trust. It is the confidence that a shipment will be delivered when it is said it will be delivered, based on previous performance. Intelligent supply chain management requires the implementation and use of modern technologies to optimize various facets of the supply chain. With an intelligent supply chain, companies use modern technologies to collect data and develop insights to optimize their supply chain.

‍

Intralogistics is our next trend. According to a Gartner publication, 75% of the world’s largest companies will use intralogistics intelligence robots by 2026 – something that, until then, was more used in the logistics field, but will increasingly become part of the factory floor in industries around the world. This is a concept that encompasses all processes and movements of goods that occur within a company, from the time products leave production lines until they are distributed to be delivered to customers. In practice, it emerges from technological advancement in Automation, with fully automated storage systems, and handling equipment that make the most of the space and volume of buildings and transport, in addition of providing greater productivity and high availability.

‍

Related to the trend above is the evolution of robotics, providing efficiency to all processes in the supply chain, from transporting goods to order picking. We cannot forget the importance of applying Data Intelligence in the industry, where big data will be increasingly used as a tool to understand and analyze warehouse performance, for example, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This will make it possible to predict scenarios and behaviors and, consequently, apply improvements.

‍

Talking about the Industry 4.0 trend, where we have service-oriented architecture, we see the importance of SOA, Service-oriented architecture. SOA is a software development method that uses software components called services to create business applications. Each service provides a business resource and services can also communicate with each other across platforms and languages.

‍

Basically it serves to define a way to make software components reusable through service interfaces. These interfaces use common communication patterns so that they can quickly be incorporated into new applications without the need to perform an integration. These systems can be developed from scratch, or even created by exposing legacy system functions with service interfaces.

‍

Today, companies are seeking to bring a service triad, namely Software as a Service (SaaS) integrated with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS), since companies are becoming aware that investing in an internal provider is not viable. Not by chance, Gartner predicts that by 2027, more than 50% of companies worldwide will use these technologies to accelerate business.
